Leeds Pride Community Grant events 

 

Before and on the day and after Leeds Pride 2019 there are a number of LGBT+ community events taking place across the city organised by and for the LGBT+ community in Leeds. 

The events lists below have been supported through the Leeds Pride 2019 Community Grant supported by Wellington Place.

LGBT+ Sport Fringe Festival 

The LGBT+ Sport Fringe festival is an inclusive LGBT+ sporting and physical activities festival taking place from the 25thJuly until 4th August 2019.

Live Well Leeds Rainbow Workshop

This is a free event for people who would like to celebrate Pride but might find but might find the city centre too full on. We will have a variety of craft activities- making bows, cards, keyrings and more. We will also have tea and cake and a chance to chat together- let me know of any dietary requirements if you would like to come! There will also be a chance to talk about support if you would like to go to the Pride Parade but with our group rather than turning up alone. 

You do not have to be LGBT+ to come along- just positive about celebrating LGBT+ lives.

Live Well Leeds Tie-Dye Workshop

This is a free event for people who would like to celebrate Pride but might find it hard to get there alone. We will get together to tie-dye rainbow T-shirts, which you can take to wear on the day if you would like. There will be tea, cake and a chance to chat- let me know of any dietary requirements if you would like to come! Bisexuality is Magic!

Wednesday 31st July @ 6-8pm

Eversheds, Bridgewater Place, Leeds LS11 5DR

Bisexuality is Magic! is a comedy drag magic show starring Star of 'The Art Of Drag', Prospero Acronym - a magician on a mission - to make sense & nonsense of sexuality.

Never seen a Drag Wizard get knotted in rope trying to untangle attraction or pull someone's gender identity out of a jar of marmite? Then this show will teach you a valuable lesson! (Lessons may vary!)

This event starts with a half hour of refreshments and networking followed by Prospero Acronyms’ amazing act. Open to anyone aged 18 years and over who is bi+ or a close ally.

Refreshments include vegetarian and vegan options. Please note, alcohol will be served at this event. Tickets are essential, all proceeds are fed back into running this event. A number of tickets have been set aside for people on low or no income, BAME people and people with a disability as part of Leeds Pride's commitment to increase accessibility to LGBT+ events - if you fall into one or more of these categories and would like to request a free ticket, please email us on

‘Get Your Vogue On’ with The House Ghetto’ @Leeds Skyline

Friday 2nd of August @ 2.30-4pm.

A chance to get your Vogue on and warm up for the pride celebrations at Leeds Skyline offices. 131 The Headrow, Leeds LS1 5RD. 

The workshop will be led by the Mother of all Mothers Darren Pritchard  from ‘The House of Ghetto’

In this workshop you will have the opportunity to explore the moves of Vogue – spinning, dipping, and werqqqqing to achieve a short piece of choreography. As well as discovering Ballroom culture and voguing, you will also learn the history and context of the art form, and the fundamentals of Vogue Femme.

In partnership with The Bayard Project and Touchstone - Inspiring Communities, Transforming Lives.

We’ve taken inspiration & hope from the 1980s Vogue Balls by providing a 100% Free Reception and Fashion Ball for our Beautiful Leeds Black, Asian & Minority Ethnic (BAME) LGBTQ community. This event is open to all our Community and Allies to attend as audience members & give support too. Our lives are much improved since the 80s yet we can still feel loneliness and disconnection from family, friends & community. Come & celebrate being you, dress up, enjoy our fabulous food and drink then enter 1 of 5 Categories which are STYLE, Street-Wear Queens & Kings, Fierce, Realness & Beautiful. Whether you wear High-Street, High End, Home Made, Brand New, Vintage or anything in-between just be ready to walk Your Catwalk!

Pride Shabbat Service

Saturday 3rd August at a Synagogue in North Leeds.

Hosted by JPride. 

The format will be slightly different this year with a Shabbat Service followed by a discussion group. The service will be interactive with participation during the service from our members.

Local representatives from many local organisations are expected to attend

Leeds Ageing with PRIDE - Silver Tea Dance and Sing Along! (To rest our feet after a PRIDE March)

Sunday 4th August @ 3pm – 7pm

Hosted by “Corn Exchange” and Friends of Dorothy’s “Ruby Slipper Café” in support of all older LGBT groups, people and friends for Leeds Pride. 

Refreshments, beer, wine and soft drinks for pay as you are able.

Cinder-Fella – an inclusive and accessible Drag Show for all

Tuesday 6th August 2019 6-9pm

Pryzm (Woodhouse Lane, Leeds, LS2 8LX)

Cinder-Fella is Leeds Prides first inclusive and accessible Drag Show and we invite everyone to join us!  Expect performances from a variety of Leeds finest Drag Queens, Kings and Queer performers such as The Blair Witch, Miss Mindy Minogue and the collective, AGE of THE.

The event will also provide a platform for performers from People In Action and Ginger Cats Theatre Company.  

Cinder-Fella aims to include everyone. Boasting a fully accessible venue, relaxed lighting, no flashing lights and quiet spaces where required.

Everyone has the right to be who they are – we want to welcome people to dress how they choose at this event.  There will be opportunities to experience a drag make-over, dress-up, visit make-up/glitter artists and have a go in the Express Yourself Photo booth!
