This year’s Leeds Pride is set to the biggest ever with an extended area to incorporate more of the city centre.
As the largest free Pride in the UK, Leeds Pride are always looking to find ways to make sure the event continues to grow in size and this announcement should make sure that this year’s Pride is bigger than ever.
The new route will still begin in Millennium Square before going past The Light, down The Headrow, past the new Victoria Gate, Leeds Kirkgate Market and towards Lower Briggate. After the finish of the parade, the party continues as this year’s event will also accommodate a lot more visitors to the city as the official site includes areas over Leeds Bridge on the River Aire for the first time ever, past Bridge End and towards ASDA Head Office.
Leeds Pride 2017 will take place on the 5th and 6th August. The main event on the Sunday will include two hours of entertainment in Millennium Square, a parade through the city centre with over 60 floats and five hours of entertainment on Lower Briggate to finish off an incredible weekend. There will be a range of events in the build up to Leeds Pride which will be announced closer to the date.
Leeds Pride is Yorkshire's biggest celebration of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans* life. Running since 2006, it is now the largest Pride in the UK to still be a completely free event with over 40,000 people attending over the weekend. It is also considered the UK's friendliest Pride. The celebrations are run by a skilled team of volunteers with close links to local Leeds LGBT+ community and the event is funded through community fundraising, grant funding and sponsorship agreements with national brands such as First Direct and Sainsbury’s.
