Vaughan - British Singer/Songwriter Announces He Will Be Joining Us at Leeds Pride

Vaughan is a British singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist (Keyboard, Guitar, Voice) whose emotive blend of alt-pop and electronic sounds deliver individualism and eloquent lyrical themes of a bruised reality. Raised in the English countryside of Kent, Vaughan has supported artists including Tom Speight & Nell Bryden with 2018 set to see the release of his remarkable debut works, outlining internal narratives of hedonism and anxiety. Having been shortlisted for the Emerge Music Prize 2018 and Songwriters Festival 2018 with appearances at festivals including Liverpool Sound City, and YouBloom in Dublin, Vaughan is set for an exciting year ahead.

"Writing my music on my own personal struggles of growing up as a young gay man in a small countryside town, means that to be surrounded by like-minded people at pride who have struggled just like I did has always been a gift to any young LGBTQ+ member. As we aim to make these struggles end around the world, being part of a city that is so welcoming and open to LGBTQ+ is something I often under appreciate, but playing at Leeds pride is the best reminder I could have."

The brainchild of Brighton based producer, David Hill, The Sundaes began their career performing for Rendezvous Casinos before touring Mallorca in 2010 for Thomas Cook with their inaugural shows, ‘Divalicious Decades’ and ‘Big Girls do the Big Screen’. Playing to thousands of people each week, they quickly became the most sought-after act on the island. In 2011 they hit the UK Pride circuit performing at Pride Festivals all over the country. During the same year they took their new show ‘Knickerbocker Glory’ to the Edinburgh Festival for a limited run. Their sell-out show received 5-star reviews and they were asked to return to the festival in 2012. The Sundaes second year Edinburgh outing saw 5-star reviews again and they were one of two acts invited onto the BBC’s Comedy Marathon.

In 2013 The Sundaes began working with The Romantic Corporation in Spain and The Balearics. They became the summer season headline act for Tui, a successful partnership that was to continue throughout 2014 and 2015. The Sundaes recorded their first Album ‘Knickerbocker Glory’ in 2014.

In 2016 they travelled to Edinburgh again to launch their biggest and most ambitious show to date ‘Diva Las Vegas’. They played to packed houses and standing ovations once more. This critically acclaimed show was so well received that they were asked to take it back to the Edinburgh Festival in 2017. They also sold out this show in the famous Spiegeltent as part of The Brighton Fringe during the same year.

As a much-requested act on the corporate circuit they have performed at many prestigious venues including The Grosvenor House Hotel, The Troxy, Grosvenor Casinos, Proud Cabaret, Malmaison Hotels, Crown Plaza Hotels and York Race Course. SuRie - The Sweetheart of Eurovision Fans in the UK Announces she will be Performing at Leeds Pride

SuRie has become the overnight sweetheart of Eurovision fans in the UK and across the continent, having delivered what was considered to be an incredibly powerful performance of her song “Storm” in Lisbon.

After being interrupted on stage by an activist halfway through her song, SuRie, in true British form, took back the microphone and continued her passionate performance with a fierceness that belies her diminutive figure.

“Our Girl”, as the UK press are now calling her, might not have brought home the victory, but her performance has been noted as the high point of the evening by media and commentators alike, as well as by the 15000 strong audience who gave her one of just two standing ovations on the night.

“Storm” reached position 50 in the UK top 100, becoming the highest charting entry from the country in four years, and is still going strong with downloads and streams currently standing at 3.5 million.

Within two weeks after her return from Lisbon, SuRie dropped her new single “Taking It Over”, to great acclaim.

Reviews on her current “Eurovision Unplugged” tour:

“One of the best live music performances I've ever seen”C. Faulkner, The Nantwich News.

“A wicked sense of humour and, oh, what a voice!”R. Crawford, The Redditch Standard.

“The tears in my eyes were welling at the beauty of the delivery. The acoustic arrangement of Storm was sung with such emotion and intensity that it finished me off.”Chas Gill, The Bishop's Stortford Independent.

ELEPHANTTREES_PROMO2018_V1.png

The Elephant Trees Have Announced They Will Play At Leeds Pride 2018

Leeds and Manchester based, The Elephant Trees, are a beautiful mess of luscious riffs, melodic harmonies, and poetic, raw lyrics.  A perfect blend of alternative, pop and rock that makes you want to scream and dance like you never have before.

If you're looking for something fresh, you've found it!

Fronted by 20 year old Martha Phillips, her song writing is raw - she leaves nothing unsaid and watching them live is a master class in ‘doing what you love’. Expect high energy and heightened emotions.

Having played O2 Academy, Leeds to 2000 Trees Festival, toured Europe and graced the stage at The Royal Albert Hall - they are no stranger to a big crowd and an even bigger party!

Despite only releasing their debut single in February 2017, The Elephant Trees have amassed an impressive list of accolades and achievements. Virgin Radio’s Edith Bowman sung the band’s praises when they became finalists in the station’s Summer Fresh competition, and the video for the band’s single Monster received over 25,000 views inside a few days of release. Martha also recently supported Boyce Avenue on their sold-out European tour (including a show at the Royal Albert Hall).

With their last single Open Up picking up support from Alt Press, Upset Magazine and Spotify’s Head Of Rock Allison Hagendorf (who selected the song for her Badass Women playlist), the chugging and unpredictable grunge-pop riffs of Hooked are set to win them more new fans.

Leeds Pride is excited to announce Leeds act Wyen Solo will performing at Leeds Pride this year.

Wyen has told us that ‘Performing at Leeds Pride is a dream come true. I love my hometown and I have so much love for the LGBT community. I’m going to give you a performance you won’t forget fierce, fabulous, Wyen”

Wyen Solo was born in East London on January 6th 1989, and it’s fair to say a star was born that day.

Wyen spent her first four years in London before moving to  Leeds now her home town.

After completing a high school education at Temple Moor Science college and attending college to study music performance, Wyen was ready to spread her wings and let her voice be heard.

In 2011 Wyen wrote and released her first UK single Smile, which went on to be featured on Universals R&B Love Songs collection alongside the likes of Usher, R. Kelly, Jay Z, and Jazmine Sullivan and many other artists who Wyen has admired for years.

She went on to feature on another Universal compilation with her heartfelt track Take Your Time, written to a then partner about how she felt about the state of their relationship.

After having a taste of success and recognition there was no stopping the R&B songstress, and she decided she would settle for nothing less than greatness.

Wyen went on to open for Tinie Tempah, and perform all around the UK. After seeing the reactions to her old school R&B melodies, honest lyrics and unforgettable performances, she decided to take a step back and begin working on writing her début EP.

It was only a matter of time before Miss Solo was missing the adrenaline rush of the stage, and she began doing backing vocals and writing for some highly respected and established artists, like the Scissor Sisters, Alexandra Burke and Eliza Doolittle. In 2013 Wyen worked alongside Alexandra Burke on her EP New Rules.

Fast forward to 2017 Wyen Solo took New York by storm it’s safe to say she was in high demand, she was booked to perform at a number of high profile events and appear on radio and tv shows where she was promoting her sexy smash single “ FaceTime”. Now Wyen Solo is set to release her EP which she describes as fun, empowering and sexy.

We Are Pleased To Announce The Next Act To Perform At Leeds Pride, Lucy Whittaker

Lucy Whittaker is fast becoming one of the most influential unsigned pop artists around, and she shows no sign of stopping. Fresh from a national press piece in DIVA magazine, Lucy’s brand of empowered-pop has made her a hit with BBC Radio One’s Clara Amfo, as well as supporting industry power houses Craig David, Clean Bandit, as well as Scott Mills and Anne Marie.

Having started the writing process at the age of 12, Lucy’s early influences of pop, soul and reggae have been integral to her songwriting and recordings. It is in Lucy’s percussive and stylistic vocal delivery, and her impeccable live performances where she references the work of Michael Jackson. Ten years on from putting her first few songs together, Lucy would be sat in a crowded lecture hall listening to her single being debuted on radio one.

With a growing fan base and a phenomenal following in the LGBT community, Lucy has smashed some of the biggest PRIDE dates in 2017, as well as confirming 2018 Leeds, Manchester and the DIVA stage in the capital. Lucy’s last release ‘I’m Not Ever Coming Back Again’ charted at #12 in the UK Viral 50 chart, and had radio-play on an international scale. Her debut EP broke to top spot in the Hype Machine Twitter chart, and she was recently nominated for Best Record and Best Female Artist on the UMA’s 2018 long-list.

Lucy has her eyes set on big things, with the ‘self-propelled pop sensation’ (CLASH) wanting to take on more full band live shows, more collaborations, as well as making more music that matters Having spent the last 12 months hitting the ground running, you can expect more of the same. Lucy’s not one who settles for ‘ok’.

Lucy told us "I’m delighted to be performing at Leeds Pride again this year. As an LGBT artist, Pride is a cause that’s so close to my heart, and I want to keep spreading the core message of Pride as much as possible - to continue the fight for love and equality. Leeds Pride is particularly special to me, as I’m lucky enough to call Leeds my home. I can’t wait to get back up on that stage and party with the crowd - expect a big show and eat ready to sing along!"

Leeds Pride and VisitLeeds are proud to reveal the new faces of Leeds Pride Family

After two weeks of searching for the new faces of #LeedsPrideFamily images, the winning photos have been chosen!

Leeds Pride and VisitLeeds teamed up to run a photo competition to find the faces of Leeds Pride. The call out asked members of the Leeds LGBT+ community to submit photographs of themselves, family and friends demonstrating their own sense of pride.

After receiving lots of excellent entries, the team at Leeds Pride and VisitLeeds faced an extremely difficult task of choosing one overall winner and three runner up photographs.

The winning photograph was taken by Mark Douglas at last year’s Leeds Pride event. When asked what Leeds Pride means to him, Mark said:  ‘For me Leeds Pride is about being a human and about valuing diversity, it's about not allowing others to make us feel shame because of who we are. It's about having a great day out.’

Giovana, one of the two girls in the photo, had come from Brazil to attend Leeds Pride: ‘Leeds Pride 2016 was my first experience at a Pride and it couldn't have been better. It is wonderful to have a space to celebrate love, mainly in a world where differences are seen as obstacles, not bridges.  I appreciate the opportunity of being part of such a great event. Many thanks to Leeds Pride who make me feel safe and respected, no matter what.’

The winning photo will be the lead image for activity promoting Leeds Pride, and Leeds as an inclusive city, and will feature on printed and online marketing material both in and out of the city for the next two years. The runner up images will be used online across Leeds Pride and VisitLeeds’ websites and social media channels.

This year’s Leeds Pride is back with a weekend of events on 5th and 6th August. The famous Leeds Pride Parade returns Sunday afternoon, taking over the city centre with a rainbow procession complete with over 60 floats and 5 hours of entertainment.

Alison Tebby, one of the runners up, had this to say : ‘We are so grateful that Pride exists & that we are able to show our daughters that there is so much diversity in this world. Being able to attend for the first time as a family last year made us so proud to show that there are families like us in Leeds & we are accepted, we can celebrate who we are & we don't have to hide anymore. We've come a long way since I was a child & hope the future is even better’

Janie Marie Swann, another runner up, commented: ‘I love Leeds pride as it's such a big and friendly weekend that everyone can enjoy’

Councillor Judith Blake, Leader of Leeds City Council said:

‘Leeds is a welcoming city that celebrates diversity across all our communities.  Leeds Pride is one of the city’s most popular events and one that continues to go from strength to strength each year.  This is a great opportunity to show the world that Leeds is an inclusive, friendly place to live, work and visit. ‘

Head of VisitLeeds, Jennifer Young commented:

‘We are very grateful to all those who submitted their photographs. The number and range of images we received really reflects the diverse LGBT+ community and the strong sense of pride here in Leeds. We look forward to using this new suite of imagery to promote the inclusive and welcoming nature of Leeds across the UK and internationally.’
