Back Door Disco makes a retro return to the Eighties to raise money for Leeds Pride 09

Leeds’ only weekend gay clubbing experience, Back Door Disco, is throwing a special Pride fundraiser on Saturday 30th May, by hosting a one off retro return to the Eighties.

Clubbers arriving before 12pm will not have to pay the standard £5 door tax, instead being asked to make a donation for admission. With drink offers on until the early hours, Back Door Disco will provide a high quality night out at a credit crunching cost.

Residents Scott Kelly and DJ Bdubs will be blasting out their usual mix of modern-to-the minute pop, commercial house and dance plus a very special set of Eighties’ classics. Expect to hear kitsch favourites, including old style tunes from Madonna, Kylie, Boy George, Pete Burns, Blondie and loads more.

All this plus free shots from the Back Door Disco boys, glam hosts, circus-style performers, barely-dressed dancers and brash Eighties fashions.

Since its launch at the end of April, Back Door Disco has made its presence felt on the city’s party circuit, fast becoming a staple in the clubbing diet of every right minded queer inhabitant of Leeds, with its popularity proving that a weekend gay night was long missing from the Scene.

The night is held in a hidden club beneath the railway arches on Heatons Court, next door to Mission and through the Fiori flower shop. With two rooms and floors, a decadent glass topped wall-to-wall bar, and a massive dance arena with a huge 600 person capacity, this is one of the North East’s biggest gay venues.

Leeds Gay Pride takes place on Sunday 2nd August and will be an unmissable all day event featuring live acts, a parade, a street party on Lower Briggate and an after hours clubbing spectacular at Mission.

“Everyone is working extremely hard to make this Leeds Pride better than last year’s,” says one of the organisers. “However, the day can’t happen without roughly £15 thousand worth of funding. It’s one of the most important days for the city’s gay population and we all want it to be as good as possible. Supporting events like this one is the way to guarantee a successful Pride, so please give generously.”
